The Great Influenza
John M. Barry
Great influenza was written after the first SARS CoV-1 one outbreak from 2002 and 2004 and before the MERV outbreak in 2012. It's interesting how much we can learn from history and how when we don't learn from history, we're bound to repeat our errors.
I read this book COVID or SARS CoV-2 that we experienced from 2020 to 2022. This book gives you great insight into what we've done in the past, how scientific improvements have helped us but also the limitations of science. It's interesting to see those limitations back in the epidemic from 1918 to 1920 and how many those limitations we still have today. It's sobering to think that over 100 years later, many of the mistakes we made during the Great influenza outbreak of Spanish flu, have been repeated.
This is a great book for anybody who wants to try to understand what happened in the United States during COVID, as well, maybe just maybe we can learn not repeat the same mistakes another again, when the next pandemic hits.
